Flutterby Equine Activities

About Marike and Flutterby Equine Activities

Flutterby is led by me, Marike Kotzé. I have been around horses for as long as I can remember and qualified as an equine-assisted facilitator in 2015.

Flutterby, a derivation of “butterfly” is not just a random name. The Greek word psykhē, pronounced ‘sigh-kee’, means both ‘butterfly’ and ‘soul’ or ‘spirit’.

It is my genuine desire to offer services built on the unique connection between humans and horses. My programmes are designed to enhance mindfulness, communication, self-esteem, trust, and patience, providing you with opportunities for profound personal growth and improved interpersonal skills.

We harness the unique abilities of horses to inspire growth, build trust, and foster healing through a variety of transformative equine-assisted activities tailored for individuals, couples, families, and corporate groups.

We create intentional, impactful programmes for:

  • Corporate clients: Build stronger, more cohesive teams.
  • Therapists and social workers: Complement therapeutic practices with equine-assisted methods.
  • Individuals and families: Foster personal growth and connection in a tranquil environment.

What to expect:

  • No horse riding: All activities take place on the ground.
  • Tailored sessions: A typical 2–3 hour workshop includes 3–4 practical activities, combined with facilitated reflection and discussion.
  • Expert Guidance: Lead by a professional facilitator in a safe and supportive environment.

Key areas addressed:

  • Communication skills
  • Interpersonal boundaries
  • Confidence and assertiveness
  • Creativity and problem-solving
  • Cooperation and trust

The workshop will consist of a brief introduction / orientation, followed by practical activities with the horses by the group, or individuals within the group, to elucidate each member’s personal interactional style. In a typical 2-3 hour workshop there may be up to four different practical activities, alternated with periods of discussion, reflection and processing aided by a professional facilitator. Whilst we do plan specific activities relevant to each particular group, we also adapt flexibly during the process to any particular issues or dynamics that may unfold,

in order to provide you and your team with the most optimal and relevant experience. The session also includes a short refreshment break.
